The Chinese Consulate General in San Francisco confirmed that five Chinese citizens were among the deceased, and eight others sustained injuries

Eyewitnesses reported that two bystanders heroically rescued several passengers from the burning van before it was fully engulfed in flames. The injured were transported to nearby hospitals in Idaho Falls and Bozeman, Montana, with conditions ranging from serious to non-life-threatening.
